Our Mission is to make Nevada a “Bicycle Friendly” state, meaning not just as designated by the League of America Bicyclists but bicycle friendly in the true sense. This means that bicyclists bicycle fearlessly nearly everywhere that motor vehicles go and receive the care and respect of motorists to which they are entitled. They are fearless because there are adequately separated facilities on which to ride and they are adequately protected by bicycle considerate traffic regulations.
The Nevada Bicycle Coalition is made up of cycling groups, enthusiasts, law enforcement and government agencies throughout the entire state of Nevada. Stemming from our original public meeting with local area law enforcement to address the perceived bias against cyclists in commuter traffic, we have regular private meetings with the Washoe County Sheriff’s office, as part of the Coalition, to identify, address and promote cycling safety. Anyone who cares about making Nevada roads safer for cyclists can be considered to be part of the coalition, and we have found that that includes many more people than just cyclists. As of yet, we don’t have a mailing list, but this site will be updated regularly with upcoming events and ways to get involved. So…here’s to safe cycling!

The Nevada Bicycle Coalition was formed to present a united front in representing Nevada cyclists’ rights, responsibilities, and interests. We are working with local and statewide officials to make Reno bike friendly, bike safe, and bike lovin’!
I met Mr. McAfee today at UNR’s Career Fair, and he shared this web site with me. Thank you so much! I just wanted to let you know that UNR is hosting ASME’s Human Powered Vehicle Challenge this weekend. I hope that you will come watch and meet teams of mechanical engineering students from throughout the nation.
how do i join? thx

Is there a way to ‘join’ the NV Bike Coalition? i.e. being able to say there are x number of people in this organization will help when making a case to elected officials.
Dear Sergio and Jim,
I’ve captured your e-mail and will send you an application to join. Thanks for asking. You’re right… our ability to make things happen is directly proportional to the number of members of the coalition.
Thanks,
Terry McAfee
I have a friend who is interested in the nv bicycle coalition. She does not have a computer. Is there any way she can contact you. Thanks
Donna,
Yes, she can call me on the phone – 775-287-7142.
Or she can drop by the Bike Valet in West Street Plaza on August 1st or Saturday or Sunday at the Reno Balloon Races. We’ll be there, too.

I’m glad I found this site. I’m 60 and try to commute via bike, but sometimes feel I’m on a suicide mission here in Reno – especially North Virginia between McCarron and 395 (up past Bonanza casino).
I’ve tried to hop a bus to avoid the traffic – which always seems to speed higher than the posted limits – but there are so many bikers putting their bikes on the bus carry-all lifts, that one has to wait for many busses to find an empty lift.
There is really no other route to get into the city from up north here – so a bike lane on this stretch just might save someone’s life someday. Please add me to your mail list. I will put in whatever time you need as a volunteer to make Reno more bike-friendly – and to get something done with this stretch of road north of town.
Thanks for pulling this together – Judy
